The end of another year

hey there

So here it is, the end of my second year at university, and boy have I changed! Not only has my appearance changed dramatically, so have my interests and passions. At the beginning of the year, I would have never felt confident to start my own blog, and would never expect anyone to read it, (not even sure if anyone does now) but that isn't important, this is something I wanted to do for me.

I have been a fan of beauty bloggers like Zoella and SprinkleofGlitter for a few years now, and decided it looked like fun to have a go for myself. So here I am! I feel that over the last year my style has changed, my attitude and passion towards skin care, hair care and make up has changed and I'm really learning who I am and who I want to be.

Just a quick blog post to check in and reflect on the previous year. Although I am not the biggest fan of where I am experiencing uni, or the course I have chosen, I don't think I would change it even if I had the chance, because I wouldn't have met the wonderful people that I have.

Being Blonde

hey there

So, in my last post I helped you understand what I do when it comes to the time to bleach my hair, as this is a regular thing I do every couple of months before making my silver again.
But, since the last time I bleached it (which was a few weeks before the post) I haven't dyed it silver again, as I am testing out how I feel about being blonde.

I like it! At the moment, I have been blonde for about 3 weeks, which is longer than I have been blonde in a year or 2, and I am liking it. I do love having silver hair, but thought I would give blonde a shot.

Anyway, I'm going to put in a few picture of my blonde hair as it is now, and I hope you like it!

I will be dying my hair silver again in the near future and will be sure to do a blog post on how to get my hair silvery lilac!

Bleaching my hair

hello there

So, incase you haven't seen my photo to the right of my profile, my hair is a really light silvery/white colour.

Now, obviously, this colour doesn't come naturally, (unless you are a pensioner in which case, I envy
you) so it requires a lot of maintenance.

In this post, I am going to explain the first step in the process I take to get my silver hair.

To get silver hair, your hair needs to be a very pale blonde or if possible, white.

Naturally, my hair is a medium to light blonde, (which I don't have a picture of as my hair has been silver for quite a while) and so the bleaching process is fairly easy, as I don't have to lighten my hair dramatically. Also, seeing as I tend to keep up with my colour, as roots scare the hell out of me, I only have to touch up my roots from time to time with bleach.

This post is mainly going to be a step-by-step of the process of bleaching my hair.

Firstly - here is what I use

I know, my hair already looks silver/lilac, and thats because I tend to keep on top of it. However if you look closely, you can see my blonde roots making an appearance. Surely any girls who colour their hair will think the same, you can always see imperfections that other people can't sometimes.

Here is what I use to bleach my hair. Schwarzkopf Live Color XXL in 00A Absolute Platinum.

I have always used this colour to make my hair pretty much white. I trust Schwarzkopf, but I assume it is all down to personal preference. I believe this bleach is slightly weaker than professional bleach that you could buy in Sally Beauty, and slightly calmer on your hair. Plus, I just like the vibrancy of the colour.

Inside the box (excuse my pyjamas in the back) you get everything you need to bleach your hair. I like the ease of it all. You don't need a mixing dish or anything like that, the bleach gets mixed and made itself in the plastic tube, all you do is add the lightening creme and the sachet of powder bleach. Even though I have been doing this for a while, I would still be nervous to measure everything out for myself. I like how it is all pretty much done for you in the right measurements, all you have to do is mix them together and slap it on your head!

Here is a very flattering picture of what the bleach looks like, once it has been applied to your head. You can see my roots a bit clearer in this picture, as I had only just applied the bleach.

I would leave this on my head for about an hour, or until all of my hair looks white, you can see bleach developing on your hair over time, so I would recommend just keeping an eye on it and washing it off when it is as bright as you want it to be.

And here it is when I have washed the bleach off my roots and they are all nice and blonde! I would like to add, ignore the redness of my skin, thats not from the bleach, the water in the shower was mega hot!

Thanks for reading, I will be sure to do a post when I decide to apply the silver toner, and explain how I do that!

Isn't it spring?

hey there

I could be mistaken, but isn't it the 22nd of March? Surely the time for snow was 3 months ago?
However, when I heard the wind rattling things about outside and the trees swaying louder than before, I knew we must have been getting some kind of weather.

My suspicions were confirmed when mum came home from work and asked if I had looked outside, I did and low and behold, everything is blanketed with snow!

Personally, I love snow. I love how it makes everything look clean and peaceful. I also love going for walks in it, and then being able to come home and wrap up and watch it fall. Winter is my favourite month as by far the prettiest and most enjoyable from my point of view.

I have never been a fan of hot weather, whether thats because my I have fairer skin than Snow White, and burning is practically unavoidable, even after lathering my skin in factor 1000 sun block, is open for debate.

I just think that sun encourages fat people to get all their wobbly bits out with no shame, and parade around, ain't nobody got time for dat!

However with the snow, kids love it, animals love it, and everyone can have fun in it. Yes I know it makes driving harder and I know its cold, but its just so lovely!

Here are some picture from what this mornings covering of snow looks like from my bedroom window.

YSL Mascara

hey there

So, early this year I was at The Trafford Centre (shopping centre in Manchester) taking full advantage of the January sales. I had heard that YSL mascara was meant to be one of the best you could buy, and as YSL is quite pricey, I decided to wait for the sales.
Whilst in Selfridges the YSL lady told me that I was lucky, as I had bought the last black mascara they had in the sale - phew!

I LOVE THIS MASCARA.
It makes my lashes look 10x longer, and unlike with any other mascara that I have used, from brands such as Maybelline and L'oreal, I only use one coat.

The normal RRP on this product is £23.50, (unlike the sale price of £12 which I got it for) and I think this is so pricey for a mascara! But, I will admit if I can afford it, I'll have to get it again!

Here are a few before and after photo's (excuse the eyebrows) of applying one coat of this mascara.

BEFORE AND AFTER
All I am wearing in these photo's is some foundation and some eyebrow pencil. I think in the first photo without the mascara, my eye has a big dark circle, I look tired and dull. I haven't added any extra concealer or foundation or anything for the second picture, yet the mascara makes my eye look move alive, the dark circle seems drastically reduced and the blue in my eye really stands out!

My favorite Yankee Candles

hey there

So I love the look of candles burning, I think it gives a room a cute, cosy feel, and my favourite candles to use, are Yankee Candles.

The red candle is called 'Fruit Fusion' and smells like, well, lots of fruits put together. It may sound odd, as we are now approaching spring, but the smell reminds me of autumn, and cosy nights in, in a comforting, not creepy way.

The lilac candle is called 'Beach Flowers' and reminds me of a more girly, perfumey (is that a word?) smell of flowers. It is more fitting to the season and is one that I can see myself using a lot over the next month or so.

I recently learned that there are some new Yankee Candles in the Easter range with scents including 'Chocolate Bunnies' and 'Bunny Cake' which I can't wait to smell!

I think I might be a candle addict.. oh well!
